America the Beautiful Day 25: the Interstate System

I am late with this post.  I have been traveling through a number of states the last few days visiting family.  That’s brought me to something else I love about America: the interstate system.

The formal name of the interstate system is the Dwight D Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways.  The system was created to provide a system of roads that would make it easy to move military resources across the country in a time of national emergency.  It has had the happy byproduct of increasing the speed our nation has developed.  Just as it’s easier to move tanks from one part of the country to another, it’s easier to move products and raw materials from one part of the nation to another.  It also makes it easier to get kids over the river and through the woods on Thanksgiving.
