America the Beautiful Day 22: Great Comic Book Heros
If you are a kid or teenager growing up in America, you can find some pretty incredible heroes on your local newsstand. Chances are, some of those heroes were once your Dad’s heroes as well.
America has figured out what it takes to make a truly inspiring superhero. Superman, Bat-Man, Spider-man, Captain America. Each of these heroes inspired countless kids to be great. The X-men taught teenagers that everyone goes through a really awkward time and they feel like they are alone. Really, they’re not.
So today, I celebrate the legends that inspired me, and that I hope one day inspire my own children. Thank you.

Nov 24, 11 at 7:02 amMy native Belgium is Europe’s main supplier of comic book characters famous across the continent and some may be famous on your side of the pond too? Tintin for example? The Smurfs? Belgian comic books have been spread across Europe and translated in a lot of languages, some may have reached the US.
While I doubt they have a lot of impact on children growing up, they certainly cannot do harm. The only thing that I find discomforting is the moralising aspect. It does portray an unrealistic picture of the world sometimes. But then I guess that is what makes childhood something people are nostalgic about: not being fully aware of the problems out there, innocence still intact.
