America the Beautiful Day 11: Veteran’s Day Part Two

Both of my Grandfathers served in WWII.  One passed away while I was very young.  The other much more recently. Once I was old enough to understand the significance of Veteran’s Day, I would call my grandfather and thank him for his service.  He was in the Navy during World War II.  He stayed in after the war, and his children moved a significant number of times because he was in the military.

His sacrifice, and the sacrifice of many, many men and women just like him, became even more important to me once I started my own family.  Without the soldiers, sailors, and airmen that served to protect our nation, my children wouldn’t have the opportunity to do what they want.  I don’t have to serve, and my children aren’t forced to pick up weapons, because of the fighting men and women of our armed services.

Take some time to reflect today on those sacrifices.  Try to imagine what they have given up for us, and what life may be like if they hadn’t.
