Book Review: Diary of a Nationist

I was sent a copy of Diary Of A Nationist by Julian Castor to read.  The book is published by an independent company, Forel Books, and appears to be their first step into political writing.  The book is a quick read, and is small enough to easily carry around.  It is a, “…collection of pithy saying and incisive comments on the current political, economic, and pop culture scene..”  While I didn’t really enjoy this book, it occurred to me that there are some readers of this blog that might really like to read it.

Most of the book is a collection of two or three sentence thoughts on a particular topic.  These range from Democrats vs. Republicans, to criticisms of the GOP, to somewhat silly attacks on Sarah Palin.  Here are two examples, both from page 20:

***

Ann Coulter and Hillary Clinton are both blonde strong-willed women who are considered sexually repulsive by men of the opposite political tendency.

***

I’ll admit that Sarah Palin is an attractive and good-looking woman.  However, that of itself does not qualify her for high office.  I don’t want her being president of the United States.  I also don’t want her performing surgery on me, piloting a jet airliner I’m traveling on, or building my home.

***

Both of these comments also represent my biggest complaint with the book.  I feel like asking, “So what?” at the end of each of these.  The first example above isn’t particularly enlightening, and the second seems to be half of a thought.  I am a Palin supporter, but I wouldn’t want her performing surgery on me, flying a plane I’m on, or building my home either.  However, to the best of my knowledge, Sarah Palin hasn’t tried to do any of those things.  So where is Mr. Castor going with this comment?

It’s easy to tell from the book that Mr. Castor is not a fan of the GOP or of Sarah Palin.  However, I can’t really call him a fan of Democrats either.  This is where I can actually recommend this book.  If you call yourself a Libertarian (big “L” and not little “l”), or you are a Ron Paul supporter, you will probably actually enjoy this book.  Otherwise, you might want to pass on this one.  However, I would keep an eye on Forel Books and see what there next entry into the political arena is.
